Who Carries You?
Your Circle Matters
The people you surround yourself with influence more than your plans, your habits or your choices. They can either keep you comfortable in who you've always been or encourage you to become who God is calling you to be.
I think about the paralysed man in Mark 2. He couldn't get to Jesus by himself. So his friends carried him. When the crowd blocked the way, they didn't give up. They found another way. They climbed onto the roof and lowered their friend down in front of Jesus.
Jesus saw their faith.
"Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, 'My child, your sins are
forgiven.'" — Mark 2:5 NLT
There is something profound about that.
Sometimes, when you don't have the strength to move forward, the people around you will carry you until you can walk again.
So ask yourself:
Who is carrying you?
Do your friends encourage the habits you're trying to leave behind or help you build new ones?
Do they pull you back when you're trying to grow or push you closer to God?
When you fall, do they remind you of your failure or help you get back up?
Do they send you a Bible verse when they know you're struggling?
Do they pray for you?
Do they speak truth when you need it, even when you don't want to hear it?
Then perhaps the harder question:
Whose life are you helping to carry?
Friendship isn't only about finding people who will carry us.
It's about becoming someone who carries others.
Be the friend who prays, the friend who encourages, the friend who tells the truth with love, the friend who doesn't give up when someone else is struggling, the friend who helps carry someone closer to Jesus.
Not every relationship is meant to go with you into every season. Sometimes growing means recognising who brings you closer to God and who continually pulls you away from Him.
Your circle matters.
Choose people who will carry you when you can't walk — and be that person for someone else.
A Prayer
Lord, surround me with people who strengthen my faith, encourage my growth and point me back to You. Help me become that kind of friend too. Give me the wisdom to recognise relationships that bring life and the courage to release those that continually pull me away from You. When someone I love is too weak to walk, remind me to carry them closer to You. Amen.
