The Spaces In Between
Staying With the Moment
It is so easy to rush through life without truly living inside it.
We move from one moment to the next like we’re passing through rooms we don’t stop to look at - always thinking ahead, always somewhere else. Our bodies are present, but our minds are chasing what’s next and without realising it, we miss the quiet miracles unfolding right in front of us.
There is a kind of magic that only reveals itself when you stay.
It’s there during a morning run, when the world is still half-asleep and the sunrise spills softly across the sky, painting it in colours that never last long enough. Your breath falls into rhythm, your thoughts grow quiet and for a brief moment, you feel connected to something bigger than yourself. Not because you’re doing something extraordinary, but because you’re paying attention.
It’s there in the evening, when clouds slowly gather and drift, heavy with colour and light, putting on a show that no one schedules and no one repeats. You could walk right past it. You probably have before, but when you stop - when you truly look - you feel the day exhale with you.
Sometimes, it’s something even smaller.
Like a tiny gecko appearing on your bedroom wall, an unexpected visitor in your private space. It doesn’t know your worries or your plans. It simply exists and in noticing it - in smiling at its presence - you’re gently reminded that life doesn’t always need an explanation to be meaningful.
The little things carry memories too.
The familiar smell of your mom’s hand lotion, lingering long after she’s left the room. One breath and suddenly you’re safe again, held in a time when the world felt simpler.
The sound of the person you love’s voice - how it calms you, how it feels like home even on the hardest days. Not the words themselves, but the way they say your name. The way they exist in your life.
These moments are quiet. They don’t ask for attention. They don’t beg to be remembered and yet, they are the ones that stay with us the longest.
Staying in the moment doesn’t mean life stops being difficult. Pain still comes. Loss still finds us, but when you allow yourself to fully experience where you are - right now - you give your heart somewhere to rest. You remind yourself that even in uncertainty, there is beauty. Even in ordinary days, there is meaning.
Life is not only happening in the big milestones we wait for. It is happening in the spaces between. In the breaths. In the pauses. In the moments we almost miss.
Slow down long enough to stay, because one day, it won’t be the big things you remember most - it will be the sunrise, the clouds, the quiet visitor on your wall, the scent of love and the sound of a voice that made you feel less alone.
With you on the journey,
