Healing in Purple

Lavender Lessons: What This Purple Plant Taught Me About Healing and Growth

There’s something quietly powerful about lavender - Its colour, its scent and its resilience.

As a life coach who leans into lived experience to guide others, I’ve often found that the natural world mirrors our internal journeys more closely than we realize and few plants embody calm, clarity and gentle transformation quite like lavender.

The Power of Purple

Let’s start with the colour.

Purple has long been associated with wisdom, dignity and deep transformation. It’s a colour born of contrast - blue’s calm and red’s fire. Together, they create something balanced and introspective. In colour psychology, purple is linked to emotional balance, spirituality and higher awareness.

When I see purple now, I don’t just see a colour - I see possibility. I see the invitation to slow down, to reflect and to honour the path behind us and the one still unfolding.

Lavender: Nature’s Healer

Lavender, in particular, has carried humanity through centuries of stress, grief, restlessness and even physical pain. It’s been used in healing rituals, sleep remedies and spiritual cleansings, but what I love most about lavender is its gentleness. It doesn’t force anything. It doesn’t shout. It doesn’t compete. Lavender shows up softly, but leaves a lasting impact - just like true healing.

When I went through my own personal storms - seasons marked by burnout, self-doubt or the ache of life's growing pains - I found comfort in simple things: A walk in nature, a breath of lavender-scented air, a reminder that healing doesn’t always roar. Sometimes, it whispers.

What Lavender Taught Me About Growth

Lavender thrives in tough soil. It needs sun. It needs space. It doesn’t do well in cramped, dark corners and maybe that’s the first lesson: growth needs light and room to breathe.

As a coach, I meet many people trying to bloom in the wrong environments - chasing healing while still planted in toxicity, hoping for clarity while buried in noise.

Lavender reminds us to:

  • Choose environments that support us.

  • Seek out stillness.

  • Trust slow growth.

Healing doesn’t have to be dramatic to be real. In fact, some of the most profound changes happen quietly - when we rest, when we reflect, when we finally stop trying to force transformation and start allowing it.

A Gentle Invitation

So today, I invite you to bring a little lavender energy into your life.

Pause... Breathe... Reflect. Surround yourself with calm. Let go of what crowds your space and remember: like lavender, you don’t need to bloom loudly to be beautiful.

Whether you’re in a season of planting, growing or resting, know that every stage has value. Trust your process. Honour your pace.

Healing is not a race - it’s a return and sometimes, the softest things carry the greatest strength.
