Dreams as Compass
Dreams: The Compass of Our Well-Being
We’ve all had dreams - those big, bold visions of who we want to be, where we want to go and how we want to live. Some arrive in quiet whispers; others burst in like lightning, impossible to ignore, but dreams are more than distant fantasies. They are invitations, guiding us toward deeper well-being and a life that feels authentic.
As a life coach, I’ve learned something simple, but powerful: the dreams we hold are rarely about “getting there” but more about growing here!
Why Dreams Matter
Dreams are not just fluffy, wishful thinking. They’re expressions of our deepest values and desires. A dream is the mind’s way of saying, “There is more for you - more freedom, more connection and more aliveness.”
When we give our dreams attention, we uncover what truly matters. It’s less about the specific outcome and more about the qualities we cultivate along the way - courage, patience, resilience and joy.
Think about it: pursuing a dream of writing a book may or may not land you on a bestseller list, but the journey itself will strengthen your voice, your discipline and your ability to share your truth. That’s where the real gift lies.
Dreams at Night, Dreams by Day
Even the dreams that visit us in our sleep hold lessons. Nighttime dreams often reveal what our waking selves are too busy (or too afraid) to notice. They show us our fears, longings and unresolved stories. While we don’t need to interpret every dream like a puzzle, they remind us that the unconscious has wisdom too.
Daytime dreams (our aspirations) are where we can take action. They ask for a mix of imagination and courage. When we listen closely, both kinds of dreams point us back to the same place: the truth of who we are becoming.
The Gentle Work of Moving Toward a Dream
Here’s what I’ve seen, both in my own life and in the lives of clients:
1. Start small, dream big. Grand visions begin with tiny steps. Don’t underestimate the power of daily choices.
2. Detach from the “how.” The path is rarely linear. Allow your dream to unfold in ways you couldn’t plan for.
3. Honour the season you’re in. Some dreams need bold action; others need quiet nurturing. Trust your timing.
4. Let the dream grow you. The most meaningful shifts happen inside, not in the achievement itself.
An Invitation
So, what are your dreams whispering to you right now? Not the ones you think you should have, but the ones that make your heart stir when you give them space.
Pause... Listen... Write them down.... and share them with someone you trust. Take one small step toward them this week, even if it feels imperfect, because dreams are not just destinations - they are compasses and when you dare to follow them, they lead you not only to possibility, but also to a deeper, truer version of yourself.
✨ Your dream is not just about the future. It’s a guide for how to live today. ✨
